5 Ways of Finding Self Love and Self Care

For the past few months I have been on a journey of self love and self care. Since becoming a mom I have been putting my needs last. Typical right?  I often find myself frazzled before I realize I need some time to myself. I love every minute with my kids but we all get to THAT point. This next year I have promised to find time each day for a little self love.  Here are some big and little ways you can practice self love to create a happier more peaceful life. 

​​​​Try something new by yourself

If you have been following my posts you know I have loved jumping from one fitness class to the next. I LOVE trying new things and meeting new people.  Check out my posts on Zumba, Soul Cycle and Stroller Strides. In these posts you will find me stepping out of my comfort zone and having a good time.  Do something alone that you have never done alone before. Morning Routine 

Wake up before everyone and give yourself 30 minutes to drink your coffee in peace. Read a book or just day dream, whatever you choose to do with your time, make sure that it is your moment to wake up and get ready for the day. Recently I have been reading Carry on, Warrior THE POWER OF EMBRACING YOUR MESSY BEAUTIFUL LIFE by Glennon Doyle Melton. It talks about letting go the idea of perfection and being able to enjoy the chaos. Something I often forget to do.  

Be Active 

Walk, hike, run- these are a few of my favorite things. I know I can' t always go alone but planning them when the kids can snooze in the stroller sure makes it feel like I am alone. Check out our favorite jogging stroller here.  I also try to look for hour long classes with child care that is not located in the same room. If the kids are near than I can hear when they are upset, happy or being crazy. I like to zone out during these classes and focus on myself. 

Meditate/Yoga 

There are so many short videos on meditations online, taking 5-10minutes before you hit the sheets helps create a more peaceful sleep environment.  Not only is it great for better sleep, but it also gives me time to think about gratitude for myself and for those constantly in our lives. When I have them I will often plan a good chunk of time, 30 minute to an hour, that I can follow  a DVD meditation. Check out my favorites below. 

Pamper & Indulge

I was never a fan of the spa until I had kids. Since having kids I would give anything to visit the spa. I usually get one service, such as a massage but I arrive super early and I'll soak in the hot tub or lay by the pool for a good 1-2 hours before. I make a point to enjoy every single moment I have. Sometimes it's just as nice to create a spa like atmosphere at home. Below are a few things I always have on hand for when I need to sneak away and zen out for a few minutes.

    Waking up before everyone else is something I’ve been talking about doing. My aunt gets up 2 hours before everyone and reads and has tea and writes in a journal. This is important.

    My morning routine is my “happy place”! Drinking my coffee in peace with the tv on low is just a relaxing way to start my day! Awesome read

    This is so essential! I truly believe that you can’t pour from an empty cup- so taking of your own Self is very very important. I ensure I for in 20-30 mins of exercise every day, catch up with my gal gang once in a fortnight and spend 10 minutes in the morning reading newspaper( I love this part of the day).
