Leaf art didn’t start as leaf art and that is the best part about most of our crafts in this house! We usually start with one project in mind and end up with something else even better in the end. One thing is guaranteed and that is a big mess along the way. I’m talking glue on the walls, leaves stuck to your butt and paint in the kid’s hair kind of mess. We love to make messes in this house.

    Making Pumpkins

For a quick minute I forgot how young my kids were and I decided we were going to make these super crafty pumpkins for the Thanksgiving table. I had all my supplies ready. First I told the kids to dip the string into the glue then wrap it around a balloon.  I handed my husband my camera and told him this is going to be amazing you have to document this! FAIL!!! with a big F. This is a project I will save for a night alone with a BIG glass of beer or wine. This is a 100% mom only project. One kid ended up in the sink covered in glue while the other was focused on gluing leaves to the wall.

Austin, being the artist in the house, immediately found something new to do with all our supplies and it ended up being so unbelievably gorgeous that I HAD to share it. It is the perfect Thanksgiving project for a one and a three year old.

    Making Leaf Paintings

First you must go on the most incredible Fall walk and find the best leaves possible! We found so many gorgeous colorful leaves (meant to be used for a different project) and we had a blast talking about the colors and being explorers.

Next break out the paint and paper. Let your little one paint away. When they are finished paint the leaves with a little glue and let them stick to their painting. You can paint the leaves or you can paint around the leaves and then peel them off.  Now for the best part. Lay the leaf art on your porch on a rainy day. Accidentally let it blow off the porch a few times. And then, only then will you discover this most beautiful piece of art.

Beautiful fall colors with the most perfect little splatters of rain. I can’t wait to frame it and hang it up in our house. I adore this piece of art and the story that goes along with it. Most importantly I love that we had fun!

Our 5 Year Anniversary + Paso Robles

Anniversary, anniversary ideas, 5 year anniversary, celebrating our love, wedding anniversary, anniversary dinner, anniversary ideas, anniversary quotes, anniversary gifts, anniversary wedding, anniversary party, anniversary card, anniversary pictures, date night, happy hour, date night outfits, celebrating our love, DIY wedding

Nobody ever tells you that it will be this good. I think they fear they will spoil all the fun. The past 5 years have taken us on our greatest adventures and each moment has some how exceeded the past. I often times find myself wondering how I got so lucky; To marry a hard working man that has always put our family before himself.  He has created this beautiful life for me and the kids. I don't thank him far enough for everything he does. My favorite moments are listening to him laugh as he chases Austin and Charlotte throughout the house. His love for them makes me love him on a completely different level.

"He pours his heart and soul into each day he gets with us."

That's why after 5 glorious years we knew we had to take a moment to celebrate each other. We threw ideas out - hiking in the mountains, white water rafting in Oregon, a red eye to Hawaii and back. All of these ideas sounded fun, but in reality time was our biggest enemy. We needed to be close just in case... we have such little kids and we just aren't ready to leave them and travel so far away.

We were getting ready to throw in the towel and do our typical Anniversary dinner out, when I got a better idea. This was my chance to surprise him - to take him to do things we loved doing together. Our destination was close enough to home, but far enough away to feel refreshed afterwards.

    The Location: Paso Robles, CA

I researched and found that Eric's favorite band was playing a few hours away in Paso Robles, CA. I started looking into what the little town has to offer and fell in love. A beautiful downtown full of charm and adventure waiting only a few minutes way.  We stayed a La Bellasera Hotel. The staff there is so incredibly helpful and kind. They grabbed our bags and whisked us away to our king suite where a bottle of chilled champagne awaited our arrival!

    The Spa: Sycamore Hot Springs

You know you're an adult when the spa becomes your second home.  Pampering is life and something I crave, so when I read the raving reviews for Sycamore Hot Springs, I know we had to check it out! Each booking includes a PRIVATE soak in their hot spring. I wish I had brought my camera. Tucked away in the hills are adorable little outside rooms. After our soak, Eric had a deep tissue massage and I got a facial. The best we have each ever received. This place deserves it's 5 stars and more.

    The Food: Firestone Brewery

I am a little embarrassed to say we ate at the same place twice. We're not fancy steak and wine people, so when realized we were minutes way from Firestone Brewery we had to give it a shot. We sat at the bar and had the most delicious tacos and beer.  We went back the next day and took their tour where we got to sample everything they are working on. For a split second Eric and I talked about running home and starting a brewing business and then we quickly realized we would rather just drink the good beer they made! Add that to the never-ending list of career changes for the both of us. One day I may share that lengthy list with you all.

    The Adventure: Zip Lining

No trip is complete without a little adventure! When I first started looking around for exciting  venues and crazy things to do, I found sky diving. Knowing my husband, I knew there would be no way I could get him up in a plane.

Margarita Adventures seemed like the perfect attraction for us. Crazy enough for an adrenaline rush, but not one that we would die from. They had so many to choose from - jeep tours, kayak tours but something stood out about ZIP LINING TOURS. That was it!! Eric was a trooper even though I could feel his nerves spilling over, I knew he loved it. I even heard him happy yelling as he soared in and out over the vineyards and through the trees.

    The Entertainment: Florida Georgia Line

This was the BIG surprise for Eric. He is a faithful Florida Georgia Line fan (okay me too).  He has been talking about seeing them since we saw them last year. So when I knew they were playing close I had to get tickets. Here's the crazy part, I got the best tickets I could, it was 5 years after all. The seats went back A-Z and we had Q. I figured our seats were back a little, but after arriving at the concert we realized they stated the seat sections  at L. Imagine my surprise when no one sat in front of us and we ended up in the front row?! I feel like that only happens when you are on your 5 year anniversary trip lol. We had the time of our lives!

"And of course we both couldn't stop singing and smiling all night long."

What did I learn on our anniversary trip? Celebrate every damn day. Celebrate your beautiful family, your beautiful life and make as many memories as possible. I missed my kids like crazy but that trip will always hold a giant place in my heart. We had 3 days to talk without interruption. We talked about our goals, our dreams, and most importantly our future. Time together and appreciation of one another is the most important thing in our marriage and I am thankful we got that. Here's to many many more years together with the one I love.

"It's amazing how one day someone walks into your life, and suddenly, you can't remember how you lived without them."

Five years, two kids, two cats and a dog later. This year we celebrated it all- the laughs, the cries, the joys and the heartbreaks.  I'm a sentimental person and no anniversary would be complete without a look back on all the beautiful moment that brought us to our wedding day! This is a look back at our big day and the days leading up to it.

    How We Met

We met at Sonoma State University, it was our freshman year.

Eric's version: I talked to a girl named Rosie and went home that night to tell one of my roommates. She was also Rosie's  friend and so the story begins.

Rosie's version: He invited me over for tacos, but I being too nervous cancelled right before. He didn't give up and planned for us to meet at a party. I remember stepping out of the car feeling super nervous, as if something huge was about to happen and that's when it did.  Eric walked up to our car and whisked me out, as I put my hand out to introduce myself he grabbed me and gave me the biggest hug ever.

From that moment on we didn't take our eyes off each other. We continued to date throughout our entire college career, off and on but always we remained close.

    The Proposal

When I returned from a Europe trip with a girlfriend, I knew that I was going to marry him. I thought about him the entire time I was gone and each adventure I went on.  When I returned we weren't dating, nor had we talked in a few months. But that didn't stop me. I drove to Santa Cruz to meet him, his mom and his grandma. All whom I am pretty sure thought the meeting was pretty awkward.  We immediately knew the mistake we had made..

This time it was for real. I knew a proposal was coming, but if you know Eric than  you know he likes to go big and really surprise me. It has become a constant in our marriage that I love so much.  We woke up and had planned to go snow boarding. There was a blizzard  out but that wouldn't stop us. I ran to the bathroom right before we loaded on the chair lift and when I returned his parents and mine were getting onto the lift. This may seem like a huge sign but it wasn't, my parents were always showing others the mountain they loved.  So up we went. At the top his dad, who loves to take tons of amazing photos told us to stand over by the edge so he could get a good shot. Keep in mind at this moment it's  literally a white out.

Anyways they talk me into looking back for a picture and as I peer over the edge I see it, the most amazing thing anyone has ever done, written in pine needles it says, "Will you marry me, Rosie?" Wait it says my name, Who put my name there?! and then it hit me and as I turned back around there is Eric down on one knee. That moment will always be one of the most beautiful moments in my entire life.

    Our Wedding Day

Everyone tells you the day is gone in a blink of an eye but of course I didn't believe them.  I only remember parts of our Wedding  day because it all happened so quickly.  There is not one thing I would have changed about our wedding day.. except maybe somehow enjoy each little moment a little more.  Getting ready took so long and it was over 90 out, I just wanted to hurry up and see Eric.  When I finally saw him for our first look I knew everything was perfect and that this was the man I was going to grow old with.   Walking down the aisle all I could feel was happiness and bliss. As I stood up there I thought about our home, our cats, our dog and the kids we would soon have. I thought about how fun life was going to be. What I didn't realize was that this was just the beginning. Life was about to get 10x better than I could have imagined.

    Tips for Camping with Toddlers

How to camp with toddlers, camping hacks, camping tricks and tips, camping 101, taking your kids camping, camping with a newborn, our favorite camping tips

The word “camping” used to send me into such a panic… “Throw it all in!! What will we need in the middle of nowhere?! What will I forget?” It escalated when we decided to try camping with toddlers.

Not anymore. I spent last summer preparing for our biggest adventure yet. Cheap camping with toddlers. I wanted to make packing easy. My husband was working weekends so it was really nice to grab everything Monday morning, head out the door and then return on Thursday with minimal clean up. I have to say, in the past, the worst part of going was the clean up afterwards. Here are some essential camping tips that will allow you to have fun with your kids and not “panic” about the little things.

First things first, the set up!

Yakima Sky Rise Rooftop Tent set up

Before we started packing we had to decide what we were going to sleep in. Tent, cabin, van, Fifth Wheel, Motorhome, etc. We quickly decided to invest in a rooftop tent, because we figured the kids would view it as a tree house and something more fun than just sleeping on the ground. Not only did it help keep pests at bay but it also made us feel safer being up off the ground.

    Yakima SkyRise Rooftop tent

We shopped around and we ended up settling with the Yakima SkyRise 3. Why did we choose this tent? Well first of all the parts. Yakima is made in the US meaning if something goes wrong we don’t have to wait on parts to fix it. The second reason is that everything locks. The rack locks to your truck and the tent locks to your bed.

Where we live these tents are hot commodities and seems to be the thing to steal at the moment. I feel a lot better that it is locked on!! And last but not least, it is significantly lighter then most of the other rooftop tents. It was easy for my husband and I to lift on and off  and store it in the garage over the winter.  We recently purchased a waterproof rain cover which made camping in the rain so much easier!

Ok now onto the good stuff!! Here are a few products we had to invest in to make camping life the easy life.

    Shelter

A canopy - I LOVE our Coleman canopy. I connect it to the ladder of our tent and zip it up. The kids can’t get out. It keeps the bugs out and we are able to sit and play in there when we need some down time. We tend to sit and eat dinner in there when it's dark out.  This was hands down my favorite purchase for camping but don't forget there is no floor.  We throw down a large tarp and top it with mats.

    Rugs & Mats

Which brings brings me to MATS!! Initially, I wanted one large outdoor rug, but I found a great deal at World Market and couldn’t turn it down. I ended up with two smaller mats. To make up for the space underneath I laid down a large tarp. This stopped all the dirt from getting in and made it so easy for the baby to crawl around. The mats are just a second layer and protect from rocks below.

    ORGANIZATION

I have all the things we use over and over in an over the door hanging shoe organizer which I got on amazon for super cheap. We keep this rolled up in a crate all the time and simply refill it when needed.  It includes things we want easily accessible and we hang it inside our Coleman canopy

What do we put in it?

Bug Spray, Sunscreen, Matches, Candles, Flashlights, Batteries, Diapers/Wipes, Rags, Plastic Bags (Trash, lunch, gallon), Hand Sanitizer, All Keys, Carabiner (good for hanging keys, baby/toddler distraction toy, locking tent shut so baby can’t escape), Kitchen Utensils, Plates/bowls/cups, Napkins, Foil.

The list goes on and on, but for me it’s the essentials that I need to grab quickly. I have LOVED having these items on hand and feel as though it makes for a smoother trip. Don’t forget to put all the poisonous/messy/dangerous items in the top few slots so the kids can’t reach them! You could also slip a couple surprise toys in the bottom, we keep things that we are comfortable with the kids playing with in there (flashlights, carabiners, spoons).

Baby with dad. toddler camping trip
Baby with mommy on toddler camping trip

    Storage

CRATES - We have about 3-4 crates depending on our trip. Most stay packed year round so we just grab and go.  One crate is for the hanging shoe rack, this crate gets turned into our “living room” table. Other crates contain - toys, kitchen essentials, food (this one we pack last minute), camping gear (lanterns, rope, extra supplies), sleeping stuff and clothes crate (we pack this last minute too). All of these crates sit on a shelf in our garage ready to go and like I said, after we unpack them we use them for other things. One becomes a table, another becomes our laundry basket. The nice thing about crates is they fit perfectly under the tent in the back of the truck and since the tent/truck bed locks, it is very difficult for someone to take them. They are also weather proof and can easily be stored.

    Comfort

Last year we were all about the pack n play. We could set up our campsite without our youngest getting into trouble. When the kids needed entertainment we would flip the pack n play on  it on it's side and make a cave. This year they are over the pack n play

Each has their own camping chair and some blankets that we keep in the Coleman tent.  We also keep a mini pool and water toys on hand for super hot days.  Don't forget bikes, helmets and hiking shoes!

Packing for the Beach with Toddlers

Packing for the beach with toddlers

*This post contains affiliate links to keep free content flowing.

Raise your hand if you LOVE going to the beach and having a blast. My hand is raised high. There is no place I would rather be in this world than sitting in the sand or running in the waves but that has changed since having kids. I still love spending hours at the beach but I have learned that a fabulous time spent running in the sand can quickly take a turn for the worse if you haven't packed correctly. I have been THAT crying mom dragging her two screaming toddlers through the sand to get to the car as quickly as possible. If you have been that parent before than you know how important it is to pack all the essentials and to have them on hand to create the happiest beach experience possible.

    Beach Packing List

    1. SUNSCREEN

If we forget sunscreen we don’t go. It is hands down the number one thing you need to spend a few hours in the sun even if it is overcast. Our favorites so far are California Baby and ThinkBaby (not the sport one). I love sprays for my toddler since he can only sit still for literally a couple seconds!

    2. HATS & SUNG:ASSES

Yes hats to protect those tiny little eyes and if your kids are anything like mine they rip their sunglasses off first chance. I love a good trucker hat. Born to Love has some adorable ones! I play makes some really great baby sun hats that tie as well. My kids are very sneaky and can find ways to get the buckle undone but they have yet to figure out a good tie. My kids won’t keep sunglasses on no matter how hard I try but I do love Coolsome rubber flexible glasses with the strap.

    3. SUN UMBRELLA OR TENT

Some kind of easy pop up shelter from the sun. We love our classic sun umbrella by Sport - Brella because it’s light and easy to carry. It also has little flaps on the sides. There are millions of fancy tents, but anything that blocks a little sun is perfect!

    4. EXTRA CLOTHES & DIAPERS

Pack an extra outfit, rash guard (to keep your little one out of the sun), swim diapers! We like  iPlay reusable swim diapers.  At the end of our day we throw out wet clothes into a wet clothes bag and always have extra dry ones to throw on.

    5. BEACH TOYS

We try to keep this to a minimum. My son carries his own little bag and I let him fill it with a few cars, small shovels and maybe a small bucket. He has the Melissa and Doug Sunny Patch bag. I like this one because it has mesh in the bottom to shake out the sand before we get in the car. It doesn't take much to be entertained! I always throw in a few extra throw away cups or forks for digging.

    RELATED POST BEST OUTDOOR TOYS

    6. BLANKET & TOWELS

I keep it super simple and use our Las Bayadas beach blanket. I received it as a gift and it has been the best! It’s light and easy to shake off. You can find it at Nordstrom’s or Amazon. There are a lot of different blankets out there. If I was to invest in a new one, I think I would try out the sand free blanket by LAGHCAT or possibly the waterproof/sand resistance blanket by Campfy. This one is neat because it comes with stakes and a zippered pouch.. I don’t bring towels! We air dry at the beach, unless it’s cold and in that case I’ll throw in an extra towel!

    7. WATER & SNACKS

Okay this is a big one! You don’t want to make it all the way to the beach and have to pack everything up to go get snacks. We always over pack on food and water. I try to stay away from plastic bags but they are a must for the beach. Everything in ziplock bags to keep it from getting sandy before you have a chance to eat it. Reuse it and put your wet suits in when all finished. Just don’t forget to carry these bags out with you and try to reuse them!

    8. CLEAN UP

Last but not least BABY POWDER! Finally a chance to use up all those powders you got at the baby shower. If you’re like us, you got a lot and you didn’t use any on their bums. This is a trick that has literally saved me when leaving the beach. Simply sprinkle it on where the sand is stuck - toes, belly, butt and wipe away. No more sand in the car for the ride home. 🙂

    ** BONUS ITEM**

We try so hard not to pack anything valuable when heading to the beach. There is nothing worse then having to stay within running distance of all your things. Your focus should be on having fun and running around! I just discovered these amazing beach capsules! You can hide your things in them and put them under your blanket. Better yet they now have these amazing hair brushes and sunscreens with secret compartments!!

As a mom of a baby and a toddler, I know how hard it is to get out that door and onto new adventures. I keep our beach bag packed and ready to go so we don’t waste time searching for missing beach hats or blankets. Having these things ready to go will not only make your life easier but will set you up for a much more enjoyable time at the beach! Don’t forget the reason you are there, to relax, enjoy the sun and to laugh with your littles!

100 Things you MUST DO this Summer

100 things you must do this summer with or without your kids

*This post contains affiliate links to keep free content flowing.

Summer is right around the corner and we have been planning away! Top of the list; camping and catching up with friends. These two things always seem to get away from us during the school year but during summer we make a point to go big!  Whoever said, “life was meant for good friends & great adventures” was right on point. What’s on your summer bucket list? Share in the comments below!

    Family Camping Trip

Every year we put this at the top of our list.  We love to slip away from the craziness of the city and explore the great outdoors.  Not sure what to pack? Check out how we pack for camping here

    Read a Book

Reading and kids do not go hand in hand. Each time I sit down to open a book someone is hungry, tired, bored but not this summer! I decided to have a set rest time. We will all get out a book and read or rest. I've been catching up on a favorite Carry on, Warrior: The Power of Embracing your Messy, Beautiful Life.

    Catch up with Friends

We are planning BBQ's, pool parties and lots of playdates for our kids but also making sure to schedule out time for our friends, without the kids. It's so important to have the time to decompress and pause the "mom/dad" button.

    Hiking

Who loves to hike in the fresh air? Along with this we have decided to get a hiking backpack. Check out the one we're purchasing here. Charlotte isn’t quite ready for 1-2 mile hikes but Austin is! This way we can guarantee a great hike without stopping every few minutes!

    Mom Groups

I feel my best when I’m involved with like minded moms that also have babies or toddlers. My kids love it, I love it! There are so many wonderful group s in my area- Hike it Baby, Stroller Strides, Mommy Yoga.  Check out my experience with Stroller Striders here.

    Scrapbook

Did you also start a scrapbook with kid number one but seem to forget it when number 2 came around? I started scrapbooking after I had Austin and since my time has been limited. Often times I have to remind myself that it doesn't have to be perfect or I would spend half my life trying to get the writing straight. It's best when I am organized and have things prepared. Check out these awesome art filers for the kids school work and these book sets to keep me organized.

    Outdoor Movie Nights

I’ve always dreamt of having movie nights in the yard! I found an amazing Pinterest hack and have decided to do movie night with my kids once a week! Check out our favorites below.

    Paddle Boarding

We can’t stay away! Recently I’ve been interested in paddle boarding and have decided to take my almost 4 year old along! Life jacket is a must since he’s still learning to swim but I love to share my passion with my kids. And prove that we can all learn something new whenever we want!

5 Ways of Finding Self Love and Self Care

For the past few months I have been on a journey of self love and self care. Since becoming a mom I have been putting my needs last. Typical right?  I often find myself frazzled before I realize I need some time to myself. I love every minute with my kids but we all get to THAT point. This next year I have promised to find time each day for a little self love.  Here are some big and little ways you can practice self love to create a happier more peaceful life.

    Try something new by yourself

If you have been following my posts you know I have loved jumping from one fitness class to the next. I LOVE trying new things and meeting new people.  Check out my posts on Zumba, Soul Cycle and Stroller Strides. In these posts you will find me stepping out of my comfort zone and having a good time.  Do something alone that you have never done alone before. Check out how you can dance your way to happiness with this Zumba DVD package.

    Morning Routine

Wake up before everyone and give yourself 30 minutes to drink your coffee in peace. Read a book or just day dream, whatever you choose to do with your time, make sure that it is your moment to wake up and get ready for the day. Recently I have been reading Carry on, Warrior THE POWER OF EMBRACING YOUR MESSY BEAUTIFUL LIFE by Glennon Doyle Melton. It talks about letting go the idea of perfection and being able to enjoy the chaos. Something I often forget to do.

    Be Active

Walk, hike, run- these are a few of my favorite things. I know I can' t always go alone but planning them when the kids can snooze in the stroller sure makes it feel like I am alone. Check out our favorite jogging stroller here.  I also try to look for hour long classes with child care that is not located in the same room. If the kids are near than I can hear when they are upset, happy or being crazy. I like to zone out during these classes and focus on myself.

    Meditate/Yoga

There are so many short videos on meditations online, taking 5-10minutes before you hit the sheets helps create a more peaceful sleep environment.  Not only is it great for better sleep, but it also gives me time to think about gratitude for myself and for those constantly in our lives. When I have them I will often plan a good chunk of time, 30 minute to an hour, that I can follow  a DVD meditation. Check out my favorites below.

    Pamper & Indulge

I was never a fan of the spa until I had kids. Since having kids I would give anything to visit the spa. I usually get one service, such as a massage but I arrive super early and I'll soak in the hot tub or lay by the pool for a good 1-2 hours before. I make a point to enjoy every single moment I have. Sometimes it's just as nice to create a spa like atmosphere at home. Below are a few things I always have on hand for when I need to sneak away and zen out for a few minutes.
